Greetings globetrotters! I’m excited to share with you all details about the amazing Greece trip that Renee and I took this summer. We started our 4 hour Morning Strolls tour by meeting Sophia, who studied archeology and thus has rich knowledge of the area and the rest of the Greeking.me team at 10am at the historic Syntagma Square. After getting acclimated with everyone, we moved on to watch the changing of the guard outside the Greek Parliament Building, a Must See while visiting Athens.
It was great to also stroll past the Plaka area and learn about some of the small shops and restaurants in the market. We had the option to stop during the stroll and buy locally made souvenirs such as coffee and Greek alcohol. Speaking of alcohol, we Loved the stop at the famous Brettos bar, which we made sure to make a stop back later in the evening for superb cocktails (thanks Greeking.me)!
While in the Anafiotika shopping area, we were able to take in amazing views of Acropolis. We really enjoyed just how knowledgable our tour guide Sophia was in telling us classic stories about Greek mythology and the host of monuments we were able to see such as Hadrian’s Library. She was ready and willing to answer all of our queries during our morning stroll.
One of my favorite sights during our walk was a stunning hidden alleyway with amazing works of art and street graffiti in Psirri, which was commissioned by the city and not just regular street art. One of the lovely things about this walk is that you not only see the typical historical classics, but more modern works of art so you enjoy the beauty of the past and the present that Athens has to offer.
Another intimate touch that we throughly enjoyed from our tour was the short coffee break that we took before heading up the mountain to take in the spellbinding views of the city from the peak. After the short break, we passed more gorgeous architecture while whipping through the streets until reaching these magnificent panoramic views of Athens.
