Life in Oman thus far….

By Nicole Brewer

Greetings globetrotters!! I know I’m pretty behind on post about the good/bad/ugly experiences of Oman thus far and realize I need to rectify this now :-). I’ve been spending time enjoying this experience, adjusting to life in the Middle East and applying to a few grad schools for next year, Inshallah.  I will say that it has not been totally easy living in a Muslim country as a western female (between adjusting to being covered in 30+ Celsius weather daily, stares and even being groped by a young boy in public smh).

Nonetheless, I’ve met sooo many amazing people and lovely students that the good for sure outweighs the bad and ugly.  Upon moving here, I was fortunate enough to be greeted by more than 15 awesome teachers that were starting at the Nizwa College of Applied Sciences as well. I’ve gotten Many inquiries via inbox etc about how I got the gig here and what it’s been like.  My coworkers are both beautiful inside and out and am blessed that we’ve had each other. We hit the ground running with finding a villa within our first week of moving here (my two roomies and myself).  Having to fully furnish it from appliances to beds in the place. We even have a cute little neighborhood kitty that frequents the outer corridors of our place :-).

Sunsets are exquisitely gorgeous in these parts and we tend to take them in on our nice little rooftop.  We’ve established great friendships with Omanis and other foreigners.  We recently attended a baby shower for two of our coworkers that have had kids within the first few months of living here.  Even though Nizwa may not have a movie theater or Grand shopping malls like Muscat, it makes up for it with it’s quaint charm and mountainous beauty.  I’ve also managed to take a couple trips up to Muscat and take in its vast beauty and malls recently. The Grand Mosque was a stunning beauty to withhold. Below check out some photos of how awesome life has been in Oman thus far…
