Greetings GTs! I’m excited to bring to you all a review of the fabulous travel guide and book entitled Wanderess: The UnEarth Women Guide to Traveling Smart, Safe, and Solo by Nikki Vargas and Elise Fitzsimmons, who are also the co-founders of Unearth Women. When I saw that the guide features quotes, testimonials, and chapters by some of my favorite women travelers in the game including Oneika ‘the Traveller’ Raymond, Evita Turquoise Robinson of Nomadness Travel Tribe, Beth Santos of Wanderful, and Jessica Nabongo, the first documented African American woman traveler to visit every country in the world, I knew it had to be added to my must read list as a globetrotter.
Wanderess features tips from an array of travel experts including those specific to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, a mommy traveler, and everything in between. It also assists those globetrotters looking for volunteer opportunities abroad, travel hacking advice, solo travel tips, and the ultra cool feminist city guides that Unearth Women are known to build for cities around the world.
It doesn’t hurt that the guide is beautifully done and illustrated by Lucy Engleman. It also features sections which highlight how to travel sustainably, how to pack like a pro, how to support women while traveling, and even what to do in case of an emergency. I truly appreciated the section on how to manage anxiety while traveling, as often times traveling solo as a woman can come with its own unique challenges that we must deal with all while trying to keep up appearances.
I highly recommend for women globetrotters to check out this travel guide no matter if you’re globetrotting solo, with friends, or family. It’s a nifty trip planner, travel guide, and just all around awesome book! Until next time, safe travels GTs!
Never heard about this book, but I’m glad I came across it. Looks like an interesting read, so thank you for sharing. Saved! 🙂
