They do everything big in Texas I’ve been told. Well, Austin is home to some restaurants for you to eat in a huge way. When I think about Texas, down home eating and BBQ are the first things that come to mind. Therefore, I decided to compile this list of the Best BBQ Spots to visit in Austin, Texas. When I make my trot down that way, I’ll be sure to find things to do in Austin like festivals using the Fest 300 site as well. Check out this guide to find the most divine finger licking good BBQ spots in the Austin Texas area.
1) Franklin Barbecue
Franklin Barbecue is located on E. 11th Street and is a stable for tasty barbecue in Austin. They are known for serving some of the best ribs, brisket, and pulled pork to people in the area since 2009. You know they are the best when President Obama makes a special visit there, waiting patiently to taste the best brisket in the land. It has been voted #1 in Texas by Texas Monthly and was even featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations on the Travel Channel. You will not be disappointed at Franklin Barbecue. In order to be close to the delicious aroma of barbecue here, check into the Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capital, which is also located on 11th street.
2) La Barbecue
If you don’t mind long lines (the wait will be lengthy) and outdoor only seating only, then La Barbecue will be worth it for you. The hours on their website state from 11am until Sold Out because they are just that good, so get there early. The menu consists of pork/beef ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and even turkey. On the side, try some mouth-watering chipotle slaw or buttermilk potato salad. If you worry about the food selling out, you have the option to per-order or book La Barbecue to cater your event. For an affordable option to stay in the area, the Extended Stay America Austin Downtown – Town Lake is a great choice nearby.
3) Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew
Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew is a more attainable option for those that don’t want to worry about the barbecue selling out. However, it is still a delicious local favorite. It is located in the famous Violet Crown Shopping Center area, at 6610 N. Lamar Blvd. The design of Stiles Switch will take you back in time keeping an old Austin neighborhood style. It rose to fame even more after being featured in the late 1990s film “Dazed and Confused”, starring Matthew McConaughey. Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew also prominently features an array of local craft beers, which will keep you coming back for more BBQ and Brew. The La Quinta Inn Austin University Area is cheap hotel stay nearby if you want to dine at Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew daily while visiting Austin, Texas.
While there are many choices of the famed slow cooked barbecue in the Austin area, these prime restaurant options will make you want to stay close by to dine there everyday.
