Greetings globetrotters, Happy Holidays! It’s our hope that you are enjoying today’s winter solistice. I had the pleasure of attending Sole DXB a couple weeks ago in Dubai and it was an epic affair as always.
I attended amazing talks by the likes of Joey Badass, Karl Kani, and a chess cypher with Lupe Fiasco. I actually had the pleasure of meeting all 3 of them after their talks and events! Sole is always an incredible time, but this year was even more legendary! They incorporated a host of local GCC acts and they also celebrated legends for Hip Hop 50!
In addition, some of my favorite artists who performed included Lupe Fiasco, Big Daddy Kane, and Busta Rhymes closed out the show! I must say that Big Daddy Kane deserves all of his flowers. He did exceptionally well to be performing at 55! Big Daddy Kane still has the smooth moves.
Furthermore, Sole did an incredible job recognizing the injustices occuring in Palestine with a pop-up arts exhibition showcasing Palestinians. Something that resonated with me was the idea of joy being resistance. During such heavy times, it can be difficult to enjoy yourself but it’s a must to get through trying times.
